Every time I attempt a battle/skirmish sequence with several different parties and character goals, my writing spirals downwards into an abysmal mess of telling, forced introspection, and an all around lack of suspense and scene immersion. This is despite my efforts to focus on emotions and senses. In fact, I feel like emotions sometimes take over the scene and drag it down.

Do y’all know of any complex, yet immersive and suspenseful battle/skirmish scenes? Any problems you’ve run into and fixed?

I’d appreciate any astute assistance. 🙃
