So, since I have some spooky thriller stories, I thought I might post one here.
It is unfinished by comes from a dream…nightmare…hard to describe. Doesn’t seem to fit in any of the 52 Challenges, but…here goes.

“State of Panek”

*staggers in super super late* I’m here!!
Wow, that was a good shortstory. It was intense and left a lot to the readers’ imagination, the imagery for the theme was very vivid and clear but not gratuitous and it had a very punchy pace that kept me riveted until the end. At first I wasn’t sure the descriptions didn’t confuse rather than complim…[Read more]-
Thanks, Cathy! It was something I was kinda kicking around trying to see what it would be like to write a creepy suspense thriller, but I was distracted from ever writing more on it. Just had some collections of ominous images and a few scenes, but that was it. I was calling it “State of Panek”, with the villain’s last name being “Panek”. It…[Read more]

Ooh I would read that! I loved the images like the mirror and the snappy dialogue. It would require a lot of deep characterization to really tap the theme which from the sample is already quite nicely laid. Maintaining intensity throughout would require a lot of emotional variety and range, I think that aligns smoothly with your current writing…[Read more]

You know, I never really thought about the vocabulary, until I started doing NaNoWriMo back a couple of years ago. I believe I am a panster, but there were some stories that I actually did an outline for…and generally followed. I guess it all depends. Sometimes the story dictates how I come at it. Sometimes it is merely a series of images,…[Read more]

Oh same here! I am 100% a panster in the first draft and get more and more planster in the subsequent drafts (I mean ya can’t edit a blank page ;). My mom’s always like ‘Why can’t you write happier stories?’ And I’m like ‘No but my subconscious won’t let me, the Angel of Muse is very strict (oh, have you seen the Phantom of the Opera?).’ Writi…[Read more]

Hi, @jenwriter17
Thank you so much for the information! I had no idea you could search for stock photos on WordPress–I just tried that on a post draft and it’s huge help! 🙂 I’ll have to check out that website for WordPress themes.

Hi, @ashley-tegart !
I purchased by website theme from creativemarketplace.com. It’s a great place to find awesome-looking, more professional themes and the ones I’ve used were fairly easy to install and customize. And as for post photos, I’ve just been using the option WordPress gives to find free stock photos from Pexel. 🙂 Hope that helps!

Hi, @emma-walker! I don’t know if you’ve started blogging yet, but I also use WordPress (hosted through BlueHost). My advice would be to plan a posting frequency that’s manageable for your schedule and plan out post topics in advance (and draft them in advance if you can). Doing this has helped me avoid the panic of “Oh no! I haven’t posted in a…[Read more]

Hi, all!
So I have a WordPress blog hosted through Bluehost and I would like to improve the way everything looks. I have a couple of questions for anyone else who uses WordPress! 🙂
1. Have you ever paid for a premium theme? I currently use one of the default WordPress themes but I would like something more customizable. If so, how did you…[Read more]

On hands and knees, she crept between thorny bushes rotting fence: jacket still tied around her, puppy still wriggling at her belly.
“Quiet Kazoo.” Her lips barely moved.
Emily was a quiet girl, slight lisp due to her missing front tooth. Freckles splattered her face, arms, and back. Her red hair wisped around her round face. Her cheeks we…[Read more]

Thanks for the advice and I will seriously consider it.
And when I said not having the time and money for the stuff you mentioned, I didn’t mean that I don’t have time to write, which I do have some for. I meant more that I may not have the pedigrees and bells and whistles that more experienced self publishers have.
But thanks, and I will con…[Read more]

If you really want to put “better Christian fiction” in the hands of readers (which is an admirable goal!), you want to make sure that it’s actually as good as you can make it. The many rounds of editing and the feedback, at least, are non-negotiable. And there’s nothing wrong with waiting to publish until you can do it well. Your…[Read more]

Ok thanks guys.
The advice was great but guys, as I’m finishing up my freshman year in high school, in the middle of a move, and will soon be tied up in football, I have neither the time nor the money to do all that, with a team, and the other stuff. While I don’t want this to be rushed, I wrote this book so that there would be better Chr…[Read more]

Basically ditto what @r-m-archer said. Her advice is spot on and I don’t really have anything to add. 🙂

Okie doke. There’s a lot to unpack here.
First, don’t treat self-publishing like a fast-track. Self-publishing, when done with care and invested in properly, can take a long time. Not as long as traditional publishing (that is part of the reason I went the self-pub route, also), but still a long time. So don’t rush. If you rush,…[Read more]

Sorry, i should have specified. At least what i’ve read is that teenage writers have those odds, just cause they dont have as much experience or talent.

@crazywriter I myself have been a part of his forum and other communities long enough to know that the chances to become a traditionally published author are not that at all.
But even I have questions concerning marketing and such. - Load More
