“Suilad,” Lagoron said to the stranger, using the Elvish tongue. This was a good way to test the stranger’s species. “Man i eneth lîn?”

The man cocked his head to one side. “Uh… what did you say?”

Lagoron sighed and completed a mental shrug. “I said, ‘Greetings. What is your name?'”

“Oh. I guess it don’t matter much if you lot know my name. I’m Ian. Who’re you?” (Apologies about his voice, Thwapling, for some reason he got saddled with a Southern accent in my mind. XD)

Lagoron laughed. He didn’t recognize the man’s accent, but he seemed friendly enough. “My name is Lagoron. These are my companions: Holly is the minstrel over there, Jason is the human boy, Arla has the fire-lizard (what was that thing again?), and Nora is the one with the bright smile.”

“Pleasure to meet you.” Ian scratched at his collar and glanced up at the night sky. “Like I said, I have a camp over that-a-way. You’re welcome to spend the night with me.”

Cocking an eyebrow at the others, Lagoron nodded. “We’d be happy to. Thank you for your hospitality.”

Ian chuckled. “Look who’s all formal on me. ‘Tis just a fire and a hunk o’ meat.”

This time it was Jason who laughed. “We’ll take it,” he said.

So they dismounted and followed Ian to his humble camp. Little did they know they had just found the missing piece to the whole quest.
