Lagoron’s sharp Elvish ears caught the sound of undergrowth being pushed aside. He automatically reached for his bow and a normal arrow.

A man stepped out in front of him, probably human, but Lagoron couldn’t be sure. His hair was dark with the night, but as Lagoron narrowed his eyes he was pretty sure it would be a golden brown in daylight. He couldn’t be older than twenty human years (?). What was he doing out on his own?

“It’s just my campfire,” he said as he stopped in front of them. “Not a forest fire or anything.”

Lagoron murmured a word to Radiance, and she halted with ease. He swung a leg over her bare back and landed lightly on the ground, walking forward until Radiance’s nose was nearly over his right un-quivered shoulder. Scratch that, she had hung her head over it and was blowing warm horsey breath in his face.

“Galu,” Lagoron said, using the Elvish tongue. This was a good way to test the stranger’s species. “Man i eneth gin?”
