This week’s a revision of one I wrote years ago. Critique heartlessly and enjoy!
The Surrendering
I’m down to my last defense
I heard that You’re invading this land
So I locked my heart with rusted bars and took a stand
But I had no idea of the power of Your offense
The last wall wobbles, then comes crumbling down
There’s nothing now of my fortress which I prided
It couldn’t survive when our forces collided
It’s either surrender or die fighting the Crown
Your law, Your sword, means death eternally
I must surrender to receive the delegates of mercyThis is the surrendering
I’m stopping trying to repair this rampart
That at Your glance will just fall apart
This is the surrendering
I’m letting the white flag fly high
I’m lifting my hands up to the sky
Conqueror come in and control my soul
I must relinquish and give You my heart whole
This must be the surrenderingI’m subject to You my King
I thought vassal to You would be slavery
But I find everlasting liberty
I’m bondman and yet am free to sing
The defeat of my felony and sin
Produces sweetest service to a Lord
One Who I should have ever adored
Gone are my days of being an assassinMy ways, my strife means death eternally
I must obey to receive the blessings from Your storeThis is my surrendering
Stooping my selfishness to be
Accepting of the burden You give me
This is my surrendering
Finding pleasure in serving You Majesty
Pursuing to be a daughter of royalty
All earthy shields I have flung behind
In You my purpose must be defined
This must be the surrenderingI quench the selfish battle cry
And my voice in prayer to the sky
I lower my own feeble sword
And raise the white flag to You Lord.
If rumbles of rebellion near my mind
Lord, I pray that those rebels I will bind
Never relent to their selfish ways
Always to give You every one of my days
