The inspiration for this song came to me around last Christmas but I couldn’t get it to work out until now! Enjoy and critique!

    Christmas Lights
They’re strung along the fences, hung among the trees-
All wrapped around the columns, dripping from the eaves-
The Christmas Lights are everywhere tonight
Glistening gems of rainbow and sunlight.

Entwined in festive green wreaths, wound around the post
Of the mail-box and about yard’s silhouette host.
The little grains of light sprinkled on shores,
Darkened by waves of souls spiritually poor.

This neighborhood is a light-wrapped tonight
But is there a light really shining through?
These little lights make the dark world seem bright
But they don’t attain to the higher view.

If the Light of the World is the Light of Christmas,
If the Light of Christmas is the light inside us,
    Shouldn’t Christmas illuminate this world
With the Light of Salvation, Christ Jesus

Arches aglow above snow-laden paths of stone
Those solaces of light where we linger alone.
And as we live in bliss, some suffer on
In darkness they’re lost, seeking heaven’s dawn

If working together, they can craft shapes of light.
From angels to snowmen they glow vibrant in night.
If we lay down our pride and selfishness,
We could create joy again in Christmas.

This holiday we remember His birth:
Today we’re to honor his matchless worth
Why isn’t so? Where’s the glow gone from this day?
From faith and worship to bustle and fray.

With the Light of Christmas we decorate our souls
With the Light of the World crowned, arise to our roles
So the He will shine through and they will know
That Christmas, lacking the Cross’ crimson flow,
    Is empty, prettily wrapped vanity.
With the Blood of Jesus they can cleanse their dark stains
With the Robe of Righteous be clothed, freed from chains,
So that He can shine in and they can glow
Then we’ll walk in His integrity

Yes, the Light of the World is the Light of Christmas,
Yes, the Light of Christmas is the light inside us,
We’ll let Jesus illuminate this world
With the Light of Salvation, Light of Christmas.
