This is one I wrote the other day, while reading a very eye-opening book on evangelism. I hope the Great Commission is more to us in our everyday lives than just black and white words on the page.

    Broken World (Here I am)
Here I am slacking, LORD. I’ve been indifferent
For the most part my years have been in leisure spent
Pursuing what’s good; yet forgetting what’s better
Entangling my soul in a world of care and fetters

This is the world, oh LORD. They have been captivated
In the pursuit of pleasure never abated
While time passes on and their life dissipates
So Lord, move me to warn of the judgement that awaits

Here I am halting, LORD. I have been hesitating
From the world hiding, I have been stagnant, waiting
For super-spiritual me to suddenly appear
When everything needed to serve is ready right here

    It’s a broken world, LORD
And the judgement will come to them, a blazing sword
    It’s these broken souls, LORD,
For whom Your Son, the Messiah, died. Blood was poured
Liberating love flows upon all those who will believe
Help me to remember that once that broken world was me

Here I am kneeling, LORD, I have been praying so hard
To hear Your voice. I do hear but yet disregard.
Now that the day’s come, I must arise to the task
Submitting my stubbornness to whatever You would ask

Here I am standing, LORD, I am now ready to go
To the world with Your sacred Gospel Light to show
Though supernatural foes stand in the path
I know that Your power can overcome that Devil’s wrath

Here I am ready LORD, I want to be Your witness
After Your pattern I’ll tell them of Your goodness
Then I tried walking the fence, so lukewarm and slack
Now kindled by love I’ll burn for You, with no looking back

It’s a broken world, LORD, their emptiness and their strife
It just falls so far short of eternal life
Here I am standing, LORD, willing to do what You would
Remind me that the sword still sheathed does no good
It is a broken world, LORD. Here, use me for Your honor
Here I am, oh LORD, to serve in this broken world
