The Rock and the Sand

Two foundations on which to build
In the One inspired wisdom is instilled
In the other’s stacked humanity inferior ideals
In the end, which foundations to the floods will yield?

Will you build on the Lord Jesus Christ
On the solidest Rock construct the tower you priced?
Will the dream of your life withstand
On the Rock of Ages strong among the shifting sands?

When the torrents of rain break on you-
When the tempests of wind blow on through-
When an ocean of waves wash the world away-
Will the life you’ve build stand intact that day?

Do you build on man’s philosophies;
On the sandiest thoughts build your castle of ease?
Will the dream of your life withstand
Or in the depths end up sunk, twisted and torn in the sand?

When the torrents of rain break on you-
When the tempests of wind blow on through-
When an ocean of waves wash the world away-
Will the life you’ve build stand intact that day?

Will you be like the wise men of old,
Who on His Word build a legacy of which stories are told?
Or will you be like the fools of the past?
In the shifting sands their castle’s remains are cast.

When the torrents of rain break on you-
When the tempests of wind blow on through-
When an ocean of waves wash the world away-
Will the life you’ve build stand intact that day?
