One last song before Christmas. . .
The Gift
All around a glistening tree one December night each year
The gifts are gathered together
Each wrapped up in paper and ribbon and crowned with festive bows
Each meant to display Christmas cheer.
This is the Christmas gifts of man
We sons and daughters of Adam caught up in earthly dreams
This night we give and get. I wonder
Is there something of meaning? Is there a divine plan?
All around a manger far away one holy night of old
The shepherds gather to behold
A young mother holding her son, wrapped up in swaddling cloths.
They kneel before the Son foretold.
He is the Father’s gift to man
We sons and daughters of Adam trapped by all our sins and chains
That night the Son of God was born
Greatest work of love was begun to fulfill the Father’s plan.
When wise men came bringing to You all their precious things as gifts,
They fell before You in worship
I want to do likewise for You and give worthship to Your name
These words my heart and tongue shall lift.
My lips shall sing to Christ the King
An anthem adoring the Great Lord over everything
Hallelujah Alleluia Jesus is the greatest gift of all
All around a blood-stained tree, the embelm of shame, one day
The mourners and mockers gathered.
Jesus hung and died that day. Though they laid Him in the grave
Three days later the Son arose
It is the Father’s gift to man
We sons and daughters of Adam trapped by all our sins and chains
That day the Son of God arose
Greatest work of love was finished fulfilling the Father’s plan.
When wise men came bringing to You all their precious things as gifts,
They fell before You in worship
I want to do likewise for You and give worthship to Your name
These words my heart and tongue shall lift.
My lips shall sing to Christ the King
An anthem adoring the Great Lord over everything
Hallelujah Alleluia Jesus is the greatest gift of all
My heart and life I give away as a place for You to stay
Not wrapped in golden paper bright
Nor with a crimson bow tied tight
It’s lost and broken and yet I know that it’s all You wanted
You take and cleanse it’s sin away
You left a golden heaven and
With crimson flow of Your blood was the seal of salvation
So all and everything He gives me
I’ll give it back to Jesus. You see
It’s all I could offer to such a King
I hope you all enjoy this and that it reminds you of the real reason for the season. And if you have one of your own to share, this thread isn’t all about me and my stuff. Feel free to post something you have written. And critique to your heart’s content.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!
