Heya, I see you already got a good answer, but I just wanted to drop in and comment that Character castles are awesome!
The fun part of it is that you’re constantly improvising, so you don’t get the issue of ‘plot drives character.’ You really discover who your characters are, and it’s especially good for non-point-of-view characters, since you can develop their voice at the same time, and you might find another good pov. And if you have multiple characters at the same time, you can develop their relationship too.
Plus, since there are others that interact with your character, they’ll occasionally point out things you might miss about your character. And it establishes a group of people that know your characters really well without having read your story, so if you run into issues, they might have advice.
And, it’s just really, really fun, since you (usually) aren’t tied to any specific time period, setting, or tone. So you might have a life-threatening situation and the walls suddenly start talking in a ridiculous southern accent. That… may have happened. It’s awesome XD
Without darkness, there is no light. If there was no nighttime, would the stars be as bright?
