This sounds pretty cool! Here’s my concept for my story.
The worldbuilding is as follows:
My story is inspired by Irish mythology. Basically it is set in a dystopian future where almost the entirety of mankind is under the control of an authoritarian military faction called the Raven’s Legion. You find out later that they are actually Fae, also known as the Aos Sí. Most of the world doesn’t know this though. Humankind is falling deeper into poverty while the Aos Sí and their minions are swimming in wealth and power. Magic exists as a form of science called Sacred Metamorphosis. It abides by the Laws of conservation of energy and matter. And only those born with certain genes that have been activated can use this magic. Those with a weaker DNA structure can’t use it. It is generally seen as something that is divinely gifted. Aos Sí were it’s main users until suddenly, their genes died and their ability to do magic was taken away, as they were using it for nefarious deeds. Since then, they have secretly obtained dark magic through evil means. The Aos Sí are arrogant because they see themselves as the superior race to all the other ones. The God in this world is called Dēwos, and his primary messenger is the Lady Anu, but they have mostly been forgotten by the world.
And here is the general plot:
Mayra Camacho is a silent cold-hearted orphaned lackey for a criminal mobster in San Francisco whose main goal in life is to flee the country. One day she saves the life of a stranger and she is suddenly divinely gifted with an extraordinary power. She is taken prisoner by the Legion and discovers the existence of magic, beings and monsters from Irish folklore. She goes on to learn about the true nefarious intentions of the Legion and the secrets from her past, and falls in with the human rebellion, led by the legendary warrior Scáthach. Though at first Mayra is eager to get rid of this unwanted power, she soon realizes it was gifted to her because she was chosen to be one of the saviours of humanity.
The overall message is that no matter how far we have fallen, we are all called to redeem herself and to become warriors of God.
I would love to hear any critiques. Fire away 🙂
