“No, it’s a way of life. And a rather sadistic one at that if you don’t count for eternity.”
Nithel’s steadying chest felt like a blade had cut it. Things had ripped through his chest before, for love, and this hurt worse. Sadistic. Nithel ran his teeth along themselves, looking at the side of Alessio’s face with narrowed eyes. No. Love is selfless. Who had hurt him? Who had, His heart tore as thoughts taught him.
“You seem to be in charge, sir.” Virtue had approached the, Nithel breathed through his nose. “My name is Virtus, son of Fidus. I am a soldier in Lord Delernious’ army.”
One with virtue wasn’t always wise.
“That’s not true.” Alessio whispered.
Nithel’s eyes, more prospecting now, glanced toward his companion, though he still faced the Pig’s son.
“I was curious if you might tell me where I am?”
“Hypothetically you’re in Baron Javier Vulferym’s castle, which said castle is an activist in plotting our demise.”
Nithel’s eyes widened, and he turned his face completely on Alessio. Well then, we aren’t trying to be discreet, are we.
The youth seemed to tremble. But not physically. As if the words froze his heart the moment he said them.
Alessio’s eyes touched a window, then he was turning, and charging into the shelves of squares again.
Nithel’s chest clenched a bit, and he cleared his throat. He nodded once to the onlookers, before pivoting on his heels, and going after his charge.
Nithel’s eyes further widened, his brows raising to his hairline as he rushed toward Alessio. Was the youth lunatic? Did that scare him so much that he’d,
Nithel was right behind him. Half his body was outside the walls. Nithel reached to drag him back in, but Alessio popped himself back on his own.
And he was speaking immediately. “So the only potential way out is up, the height of the castle would estimate…seven or eight days to reach taking into account the winding nature of the…” Alessio faded off.
Nithel swallowed hard, and had taken a step back. His eyes still open with shock.
The youth glanced around, the cases didn’t cover the window, and many of the people he’d rushed away from were staring.
Nithel calmed his expression, still staring at his friend. Alessio was blushing. More emotions roiled inside Nithel.
The hood came back on, like a disguise, “Um…well…” Alessio stuttered, then was ducking again, disappearing from nithel’s view.
“I was very stupid.”
Though Nithel didn’t know the word, he knew it’s meaning. You were indeed. Nithel cleared his throat, and looked at the people again. He lifted his hand beside his head, nodded to them, then turned and jogged to catch up. Nithel poked his head down aisles as best he could, double-checking many, just encase. He didn’t want to lose him.
He didn’t want to call out to the youth, that might scare him. Or… Nithel grunted mentally, not sure at all of anything.
He huffed through his nose, his face blank aside from his eyes, which were searching about.
Then they landed on a shadow. A form, almost completely hidden. He moved toward it.
