  • Eitan replied to the topic Hi from Texas! in the forum Introduce Yourself 6 years, 3 months ago

    @kimlikesart

Ooh, Arab music is very beautiful! Thank you! I’ll check them 🙂

    • I have more songs from the same people if you’re interested.

      • Thank you very much for your care and love! Your showed me how Christians should care for one another.

I started studying Psalms, today I studied Psalm 3 (it’s pretty short, but I set on it almost 2 hours…). Something that came into my mind – the picture of king Saul persecuting David, is a foreshadow of Saul (of Tarsus) persecuting the Church (which is like persecuting Jesus himself, and we know that David is an archetype for Jesus).

Anyway, how are you? Is there anything I can pray for you about?

    • Wow. I’m impressed that you are able to focus on one subject for so long. (A level of maturity few I’ve met have, if any). I should probably do that sometime. (: The things you can learn just sitting over and thinking on God’s word!
I read Psalm 3. Four times, for about fifteen minites. It’s very good.
I think what you took from it is really cool.
When reading the Psalms I like picturing all the ‘me’s’ as referring to Israel or the church. It was a good mirror of Israel and your (their?) relationship with God.

I’m doing good. My birthday party is today. I’m making cookies, which is fun. Funny thing, they’re sugar cookies, and I forgot the sugar. What’s your favorite cookie?

I tried one right before I was about to cut the dough, and it was disgusting. (Good thing I tried it.) And I added sugar.

Prayer: My parents. That my mother will respect my father, even when she doesn’t understand. My father, that he won’t give up on her.

      • Happy birthday!!🥳🎉🎊
        Are you 16?

Hmm, everyone has their own gifts from God. I can study one psalm for a long time, but it”s very hard for me to not tell every stupid joke that come to my mind, or not to tell my opinion when no one asked it.

My favorite cookies? I eat everything without questions 😀
But my favorite are probably chocolate chips cookies.

I’ll keep them in my prayers.

I think that one of the benefits this forum has given to me, is that now I understand what is actually ”to see Christ” through people. There are things I see here that you’ll never see in secular people. Like, actually care for other people and ask them how do they feel and if you can help them anyway.

It’s also amazing to see the differences between the way Christians view family, and the way secular people view it. Christians view children as a gift, and parenthood as a calling. In contrast, I’ve heard from secular parents phrases like ”After 8PM I’m not your mother, I want to rest”. Or, ”Don’t have children, actualize yourself” – As if children are a mere burden.

Anyway, good night and happy birthday again!

    • Yes, I’m sixteen. Thank you for praying. (:

Chocolate chips are my father’s favorite cookie too!

I want four children. Do you have any name ideas for your kids someday?
Have you ever really liked a name, that had an amazing meaning, but someone really bad had the same name centuries ago, and so you feel reluctant to use it? (Then again, you might never think about such things. (: )

Thank you for the happy birthday!

      • Hmm… Sometimes I think about it, but for some reason I think only about boys. I love the name Yehonatan (the modern Hebrew version of Jonathan) – I really admire the faithfulness and love of the biblical Jonathan, and the name itself means ”the LORD gave” – which’s how every parent should see their children. And the name is very beautiful!

Good names used by bad people? So many evil, idolatrous kings in the Bible had amazing names – the LORD raised, the LORD held, the LORD is high. But all of those biblical names aren’t used in Israel today anyway…

      • By the way – I’ll read your pre-prologue and edited chapter, but I can;t do it in the next few days. Hopefully, in Friday or Saturday. But I will, with God’s help!

    • Yes!!! I love the name, Jonathan!

The name I wasn’t sure about was Zedekiah? It means ‘The Lord Is Just’ (but you probably already knew that). He would probably go by Eddy though.

I also like Muriel (for a boy), and Jessicca. Muriel doesn’t have a striking meaning, and ‘Murry’ could be a nick-name. But Jessicca (you might know this one as well) means ‘God Beholds.’

No pressure about reading my book! Whenever you have time. (:

    • Hi, would you mind letting me know what Jewish feasts/festivals are in early to mid-spring? Thanks!

      • Of course!

Purim – roughly corresponds March. The feast celebrates the deliverance from Haman’s plan, and in Jesus’ times was celebrated by exchanging tasty food, giving gifts to the poor, and generally by having good meals and being happy. The feast is celebrated in home.

Passover (Pesach) – roughly corresponds April. Every Israelite man must go to the Temple in Jerusalem. The Biblical way to celebrate it (not the rabbinical way, that was borrowed from the Greeks years after Jesus) is in Exodus 12 I think.

The wave offering – occurs, probably, 7 days after Passover night. The priest harvests and offers to God a sheaf of barley, and only then the people are allowed to harvest their crops. Describes in Leviticus 23.

Shavuot – occurs 49 days after the wave offering, thus, has no fixed date. It roughly corresponds May or June. Again, every Israelite man must come to Jerusalem. Described in Leviticus 23.

It’s all very basic, I recommend you to read in Wikipedia and in the Bible. If there’s any help you need, feel free to ask! 🙂

    • Thank you!

    • What are your two siblings like? What are their personalities like? Do you all get along well?

      • Thanks for being interested!

Tamir is a blond, short 11 years old boy, that loves computer & video games. He is a great joker, even though sometimes his jokes are dirty. We used to fight a lot, but now we get along excellently.

Karin is an extremely blond, cute 5 years old girl. She loves YouTube, dolls and phone games, and beating us when everything fails to interest her. We get along pretty well, usually.

    • That’s good that you and Tamir get along now. (:

Bethany and I have months where we’re fine, then everything can seem to fall apart in our relationship in one day

Ah, five years old? So cute! (usually). When you say ‘beating’ you, do you mean in games or really? (I know a five-year-old likely can’t hurt you /that/ bad, but
) (:

Who’s your best friend, and why are they your best friend?

      • How old is Bethany? How is she?

Usually she doesn’t beat me, but she and Tamir love to beat each other in a game.

Hmm. I have 6 good friends in my class, and I get along with everyone, but I don’t think I have a best friend. I don’t usually talk with people about my problems, loves, hates and such.

        Who’s YOUR best friend? 🙂

Hmm… I’m pretty sure they were allowed. Not sure what’s going on today. Hope I helped!

    • Are Jews allowed to say ‘El Shaddai’? (Sorry if it’s a dumb question)

    • Bethany is eleven years old. She’s doing fine. She doesn’t like school at all, so she’s upset about homework… (: My dad put up a pool in the backyard, and she’s really excited about that (she /loves/ to swim).

My best friend is my father. He’s the only one I talk about my ‘problems, loves, hates, and such’. For he is really the only human I trust with those things. He’s an amazing dad, and I’m so blessed to have him when so many have awful or indifferant fathers.

      Thanks for asking. (:

      • How many siblings do you have?

Hmm, it seems that the norm among the Christians in the USA is homeschooling. Why are you and your siblings go to school? Is it a secular school?

Homework… We almost don’t have such 🙂 Unless you count preparing for tests.

Swimming! I’ll not say I’m a huge fun of swimming, but I do swim from time to time. And I love water. Who doesn’t? It’s… calming.

You are definitely blessed!! My parents are on the verge of divorce, though I don’t know if they will actually do so…

    • Only Bethy. Which is fine, we both wanted a little sibling for a while but it’s been a steady no since her birth. My dad once spoke of adopting though.

(: Yes, uh, we’re homeschooled. The public shools in the USA, for the most part, are no good place to be. (I could give a list of why). And private school is too expensive for us.

I don’t like swimming that much either. But, as I said, Bethy /loves/ it!

Oh, I’m sorry about your parents. What else to say?

I, I might know what you’re feeling… Perhaps I’ll share with you some of my poetry… Most don’t rhyme or anything, and it’s not that good. But, yeah…

    • ‘Insecurity’

What do I do? What do I say?

Do I ask about the words he said? Or what you did to cause them?

What do you want me to ask? What do you want me to do?

Defend you vehemently? Tell me first; What did you do?

What did you do that caused such an event. What was it that dad couldn’t forgive you of it?

I can’t do anything without the full story. Why do you just give us teasers, that jab holes in our chest?

Why did you pour out your heart in the car? For what brutal words you spoke, please finish. You must have had a reason. But, alas, you can’t tell us more. You should have told us nothing.

What did you want me to do or say? I have no clue, please help?

What could have father said? What did he do? that so hurt you?

How could all this anger and bitterness spring
in the wake of a brand new baby?

I don’t know what to do, if anything. Nor what I should say.

I know nothing but the love I have for my parents, and the hate they have for each other.

What do I do? I wish I had never known, had never heard. I wish we never had to see…

‘Lord help us, for we need Thee.’

    • To say the least, followers of Jesus are by no means perfect. But, if we were, we wouldn’t need Him, would we?

      • Your poem is beautiful. Thank you for sharing! I keep praying for your parents. I don’t know what’s going on with them, but I know that they’ll have peace, love and harmony, through surrender to God.

I’m not worried that much about my parents. Even if they’ll eventually divorce – God is my rock, not them. And He can redeem the ends of the sinful means. I’ve already learned some valuable don’ts from them.

Why are public schools are bad?

      • By the way, I need some advise. I hope you can help me with your own knowledge, or maybe ask someone. I don’t want to so it publicly because, well, it has nothing to do with writing…

My friends want to soon start a D&D campaign, and they expect me to join. I have know idea if I should join or not, because…

On one hand – it’s not inherently sinful. Maybe it’s not good, but it’s not really bad either, and as I understand, we are free to do anything that isn’t sinful as long as we don’t hide Christ. I’m also don’t want to loose friends, because a it’s a part of witnessing, isn’t it? That people who know you closely will see you’re different.

(Inappropriate stuff, like sexual jokes, are not included in the campaign – I asked them to not tell such in near me, they agreed).

On the other hand, maybe I should spend those 3-4 hours in something better and really profitable. Moreover, the campaign world doesn’t contain a biblical-God-figure, like Eru Iluvatar or Aslan. I… don’t know if it’s a good idea to play in such world. It’s kinda approving the idea of a biblical-God-figure-less world…

I’ll be very thankful for your help! 😀

      • Lol. I have no idea, not know idea…

    • As to your parents, you are completely right. Though it will still hurt. ‘When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.’ Psalm 27:10
I will also pray for you. (:

Public Schools? Okiday, heres wees goes…

      1. Drugs. Dealers (the kids even) sell and buy on playgrounds and in bathrooms. In some really bad ones the halls.
      2. Smoking in bathrooms and on playgrounds.
      3. Unhindered bullying.
      4. Large promotion of men with men, or women with women marriage relasionships.
      5. Abortion is encouraged.
      6. Evolution is taught as fact, not theory, and any discussion of Jesus as God, or creation can get you sent to the principle, or infractions.
      7. You are greatly encouraged to not get your Bible out at school, or on the school campus.
      8. Praying on school campus is not allowed.

That’s all I know about, and all my parents and friends have told me…
So, yeah, not the best place to be.

    • Great job having the guts to ask your friends not to talk that way with you! That took courage. I’m forming a reply for your question (I’ve been doing that since six this morning). But, just a bit.

      • Thank you so much for praying and helping!

Wow. In fact, it sounds too bad to be real…
I’m more than sure that evolution, baby-murdering-for-selfish-reasons (sorry, abortions) and gay relationships are promoted. But… some things sound really weird. I have friends from NJ that learn in a public school, I’ll ask them what’s real. Even though maybe in Texas the schools are worse… (Anyway, the secular worldview that runs the schools is enough to keep away from them).

By the way, I translated Nahnu Sahiroun (the song is 10 times more beautiful when you understand the words!!):
        https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CG3hOBNbS46eLGfeyv8rbMILqN6QNMjupSt7wQQ85uE/edit?usp=sharing
(I know very basic Arabic, plus reading and writing, mostly wothout understanding anything. Google Translate made almost all of the job 😀 )

    • Alright. Dungeons and Dragons:
I didn’t know anything about D&D except that it had dragons and dungeons until today. I’ve never been allowed to play it.
Today I asked my father /why/ I had never been allowed to play. He gave me this article to read…

‘What’s so bad about “Dungeons and Dragons?” My friends and I really enjoy it. We’ve been at it for about a year and a half now. By this time our characters and storyline have become pretty involved and complex. My parents aren’t happy about this. They complain that the game is taking up too much of my time. My mom even says that some Christian website calls it “evil” and “demonic.” Personally, I find that hard to swallow. What do you think?

We have serious concerns about Dongeons and Dragons and some of the other fantasy role-playing games (RPGs) that have become such a prevalent feature of contemporary youth culture.

Some of those concerns are spiritual in nature. We’re aware that at one level “D & D” is simply a contest of strategy and mathematical skill. We know there are some players whose interest in the game would probably stay just as strong if its mystical and magical overtones were replaced with standard war-game imagery. That doesn’t change the fact the game as actually constructed includes some strongly occultic elements. Some former devotees testify that their involvement with “D & D” brought them into contact with demonic activity. Such claims need to be regarded very seriously.

A second problem with this game is its obsessive potential. This concern is closely related to the first. As we understand it, it’s not uncommon for young participants to undertake 48-hour marathon sessions of “Dungeons and Dragons.” So intense are these sessions that the gamers sometimes forget to eat or sleep. Many conscientious parents are seriously worried about this particular aspect of “D & D.”

There’s good reason for their anxiety. For many players there is something dangerously addictive about the idea of entering a fantasy universe and assuming a different personality. This can be especially true for youngsters who tend to be isolated or socially challenged and who find it difficult to connect with real people in the real world.

The good news is that there are now a number of positive Christian products on the market that can sometimes be good, constructive alternatives to occultic and secular games such as “Dungeons and Dragons.” But even these relatively benign RPGs need to be carefully examined and evaluated by parents.

In every case you need to ask two questions. First, “What message is being communicated through the medium of this game?” And second, “What values is it designed to represent and promote?” Games that focus on violence, sensuality, greed, and ego-gratification should be avoided. Christian families who sincerely desire to build Christian homes founded upon biblical principles need to measure all of their entertainment choices against the standard of Philippians 4:8: “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things.”

That verse at the end really is a good guide. Is D&D promoting truth? Is this game noble, or just? Is it pure? Is it lovely? Does it have good report? Is there any virtue in it? Is there something praiseworthy?

One of my teachers told me to do this years ago when I had a question about a book, game, or movie. I am supposed to ask myself, ‘Would Jesus read this book? Would He play this game? Would he watch this movie or show?’ If the answer is no, then the answer is no. Because the Holy Spirit is inside of us, inside of /you/. HE is within you!

    • Sorry if I sound(ed) preachy.

I think you likely already know what I’m about to say, but to make sure I’m going to share anyway.

    • Do you know that serving Jesus will be hard? /Very/ /VERY/ hard? Do you know that we will be treated as He was treated?
      Spat upon, reviled, and rejected?
The servant is not greater than his Master, we shall be treated as He was treated. Loving, and obeying Jesus Christ could cost you and I everything.
But we will by no means be alone in the suffering. We will have His firm, loving hand in ours.

      Here’s something I wrote a while back:
      Psalm 23

‘Lord is my shepherd’ – He is my shepherd. He is my protector. My leader. My provider. My safety. He is the preserver of my life. He is my only hope for tomorrow. Without Him I have no protection. Without Him I wander without direction. I starve and go naked. I am in darkness, and sadness with no way out. I am in constant danger. Without Him I die, not just now, but for eternity. Without Him there is no hope for tomorrow. The Lord is my shepherd.

‘lie down’ – Lying down shows a lack of fear. It shows that one feels safe and secure. They trust their shepherd; that He is working for them, one doesn’t have to be afraid. How sad most choose to worry anyway.

      ‘quiet waters,
refreshes my soul’ – There are no earth-quakes, underwater volcanoes, or fast-moving currents. Nothing threatens to pull the lamb away from the shepherd. I think it’s because still waters run deep. And only if we’re deep in our Shepherd are we safe from fast-moving currents that can wash us away from our true love.

‘guides me along the right paths
walk through the darkest valley’ – The dark valley must be the right path. Even though it’s narrow and cold. Abuse is hurled physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. But, as mentioned before, we are deep in the Lord. The Shepherd is leading me down these paths. There is a reason. There may be darkness, and death all around me, but the Light of the world is beside me. He has a reason for the suffering and temptation. Where we likely won’t know the full reason then, if ever
it is to make us stronger. Stronger in Him.

      ‘I will fear no evil,
You are with me;
rod and Your staff,
comfort me’ – We don’t fear evil. God is with us, and unless it is our time…He will not let our physical bodies be taken by wolves, nor thieves. He has a staff. It is sturdy and sure. It is a pillar of safety and redemption. It is used to ward off predators. The staff is a comfort to the sheep who strays. Yes, their legs will be broken, and their necks sore from the crook of the staff
but they are forgiven. They are saved. The Shepherd and His staff are a comfort.

      ‘table before me
presence of my enemies’ – We are sitting down to feast. We are sitting down to celebrate, and eat precious rations before the battle seems to be won. But those who trust in the Lord, and believe His Word
the battle is already won indeed. The demons may storm, and hail
But the battle is won. The enemies shall be no more. We celebrate our victory, for it is sure.

‘anoint my head with oil’ – I am chosen.

‘cup overflows’ – The Lord God blesses me abundantly. Whether in money, food, clothes, houses
Or, more likely, with friends. With love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control. I find it hard to believe there are better blessings than these.

(I’m sorry all my answers were so long).

    • The lyrics are beautiful! Thank you for sharing them with me. (:

Sorry if I was too strong on all the D&D stuff. I get what you’re saying about wanting to be a good friend, and not wanting to offend them by refusing to play the game. Can you let me know what you decide?

      • Thank you /so/ much for helping! God definitely used you to save me from a future sin. Some of the points are somewhat exaggerated (I know many people who play it, none of them is involved with Satanism and witchcraft, and I’m pretty sure they’re not addicted), but the final line is that D&D doesn’t promote any helpful, godly values or message, even if it’s ”clean”. Thank you again SO much, this method of testing stuff (values & message promoted) will surely help me in the future.

I’ll politely reject to play it.

Also, thank you for sharing with me your meditating about Psalm 23. Definitely, God knows all my needs. He knows I need friends. He’ll provide me everything I need. I shall not want. You’ve given me a few things to pray about.

(Those friends will be next year with me in the same robotics team. We’ll probably not stop to be friends. But even if, God is more important. And he gives real joy.)

The song and your meditation made me thinking about GOD’S part in my relationship with him, rather than about my own part. It’s so comforting to think about God’s amazing, incredible love, that has no terms and conditions. He is loving and faithful to hear and answer our prayers even when we don’t see it, or even feel like praying, with his almighty power. So thank you again 🙂

    • Thank you to Eitan. You have encouraged me with your faith, and willingness to ask questions. Then yet more your readiness to change when you find that somthing isn’t right.

What is the coolest thing you’ve made in robotics class?

      • I’m glad God uses me to glorify his name!

Hmm, we had the national championship in February. We didn’t achieve a lot, but it was very fun!

      • I studied yesterday Psalm 12, that was probably written when David was serving in Saul’s court as a general, and he was alone and without any godly people around him. I imagined how glad and thankful he was for Jonathan then…

It made me think of myself, and to thank God for the amazing opportunity I have to be in touch with other godly Christians through the internet. There are things I can get for my growth as a Christian only through fellowship with other believers, both stronger and weaker than me.

    • I just read Psalm 12 a few times. I didn’t know it was written when David was there… That’s cool, and the way it applies to you…
I’ll pray you find your Johnathan soon. (:

      • I know this may make you uncomfortable, so just say no if you don’t want to. Would you like to email, or something off StoryEmbers? StoryEmbers is great though. (:

      • I use David Guzik’s ”Enduring Word” commentary, because there will be always things I will not recognize in the text, he believes the psalm was written this time – but, how we say it in Hebrew, it’s not a Torah from mount Sinai 😉

Something I noticed – usually, psalms that talk about the wickedness of the wicked and his punishment, are structured in two major parts – the deeds of the ungodly, and then their punishment. I noticed that usually, between those parts there’s a ”transition part”, that is usually something like ”God, punish the wicked in this way, because they do so and so and so”.

I believe that this part is there to emphasize that God hears his people and the judgement already begins to be brewed, before we can even see it, when it still seems that the wicked prospers. Again, it’s not a Torah from mount Sinai, but still something interesting.

        Your thoughts?

Yeah, I would love to text through g-mail or something! What’s your address?

By the way, the summer-fruit season started in Israel! We have cherries, and nectarines, and grapes, and peaches, and soon will have plums and cactus pears! What do you have in Texas?

    • (: I erased the last one because it had my email on it.

    • answered.
