Zenyth:
Zenyth’s black boots sounded hollow in the rough passageway as he moved down it in the absolute darkness. He could have run this alley blindfolded; he had been down it so many times. His memory was extremely keen and he had memorized every turn, every twist, every imperfection in the stones. He shut his eyes now as he hurried through the darkness. It helped him concentrate and heightened his keen sense of hearing to have them shut.
He came to the split off. He turned sharply into an even more narrow passage. A long flight of steps lay in front of him which he took two at a time. When he reached the bottom the tunnel was absolutely pitch black, being at least 35 feet under the street. His pace did not change however. He did not slow or walk uncertainly. He walked quickly and boldly, counting his steps. At the precise moment he turned the corner of the tunnel and came to another split.
He took the right tunnel and walked faster. He was almost to the canal. He came to another set of stairs and ascended them. As he kept walking, gradually the light grew till he walked up to a small opening. Carefully he slipped through. He found himself standing beside the canal. He looked back at the hole and smiled with satisfaction. It was completely hidden by the branches of a large tree.
