Rob fell in step behind Gerik, his eye on the youth’s bowed head. He’s showing a different side of him, he thought. And it’s got something to do with the kid that the Mockingbird’s bagged.

He frowned as his mind analyzed the situation. Maybe I’ll have to throw a few question past him. There’s more to this than-

The shadows in front of Gerik darkened. A figure stepped into his path.

“Hey-”

Too late. Gerik’s lowered head bumped into it.

Rob’s hand immediately tightened around the .45 in his hand and stepped up to Gerik’s side.

Gerik lifted his head and looked up into the man’s face. “Gamma 6.5,” he said.

He knows him. Rob let the vice-grip on the weapon relax.

The aged man stared him intensely into Gerik’s eyes. “Have you seen him?”

Gerik met his gaze. “Seen who?”

“Kiet. The boy who works with me.”

Gerik’s nostrils flared.

Rob glanced from one to the other. If this ‘Kiet’ is who I think he might be-

“Excuse me, Gamma 6.5,” he spoke up in his ‘professional’ voice “But may I ask you few questions?”
