(Disciple) Follow His Footsteps
You did not demand a throne or a crown at Your birth
But lowly came and, cloaked in flesh, was born as God on earth
You’re love allowed the glory to bow and seem weak
What else but pride prevents my spirit from being as meek? You strode the ocean to show them what faith in You can do
What else but doubting drowns my faith to walk with You?
You sang a hymn while knowing what great woe would soon come
Should I not sing to You when sad and my soul is numb?
You stretched out Your hands to heal them, the blind and the lame
Why do not I like You, heal a broken soul in His name? And be a disciple stepping out in faith
Following You to the wilderness and the war-torn land
And be a disciple calling on You for strength
Battling darkness and fighting the Devil’s cruel hand
And follow in Your footstepsYou taught with Your love and truth for all who came to hear
Why cannot I speak with grace and admonish without fear?
You confronted the Pharisee with Your authority
Why cannot I stand and speak up with truth my priority?
You showed the disciples how to follow in the way
Why do not I shine my light to others every day?You suffered their scorn and stripes, not guilty of their charge
Why can not I turn my cheek, since You forgave wrong so large?
You gave up Your life to pay my debt at Calvary’s hill
Just what if I would for a friend the greatest love fulfil? And be a disciple stepping out in faith
Following You to the wilderness and the war-torn land
And be a disciple calling on You for strength
Battling darkness and fighting the Devil’s cruel hand
And follow in Your footstepsYou left these Your footprints on the pages of history
With that great sacrifice, You opened a new destiny
Your word says imitate You, walk in Your precepts
What else can I do but follow You, walk in Your footstepsAnd be a disciple stepping out in faith
Following You to the wilderness and the war-torn land
And be a disciple calling on You for strength
Battling darkness and fighting the Devil’s cruel hand
And follow in Your footsteps
