Sorry I haven’t been part of this conversation before. I missed the part about real-world stuff and didn’t really know how to contribute as I don’t really have experience in Fantasy
As I may have mentioned before I basically write his-fic and that has sorts of language differences involved. And then there’s also the different cultures within every time period. Like in my civil war book I’ve really been working on distinguishing the characters voices. I have been googling accents and stuff a bunch. I think you are around ten or 12 when your accent is pretty well established for life. Though technically it is possible to change it with lots of hard work and time. This has presented an interesting aspect for me, as I wonder how that fact would have affected the black slaves who were their master’s children’s playmates vs the ones raised on the outskirts of a plantation.
I am also working on fixing up the language in a short old west story I wrote last year and let’s just say slang and subtracting words from sentences does not come naturally
