Daeus Lamb started the topic Challenge: explore new character types in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 11 months ago
Hey friends,
It being Monday, we’re back to our annual theme discussion on character development. (If you’re new here, check out the previous posts. There were some really good ones.)
Today, I wanted to do something different. This is not so much a discussion as a challenge.
It can be easy for us writers to develop our own personal cliches, but these generally just hold us back. When it comes to character development, sometimes we use the same character qualities over and over again. If we can reach outside our comfort zone though and try new things, we’re going to discover some amazing possibilities.
Here’s my challenge for you this week. Skim through your WIP and identify personal character cliches you’ve developed in your writing. Then, try to create 1-3 unusual characters for your writing style and incorporate them into your story.
