@when-i-see-the-kingdom ahh I see. Well if he doesn’t have a huge role in the story, it might help to give him a smaller/less detailed description when he’s first introduced! I think characters with really detailed/interesting descriptions tend to really stick with the readers more, so if he’s going to be more of a background character, giving h…[Read more]

@when-i-see-the-kingdom Hello! I have a few thoughts regarding this:
So, personally, I actually don’t think that it’s necessary that authors use character archetypes. Now, don’t get me wrong, I think that this can be extremely helpful for some people, but I don’t think that archetypes make the character. So for example, it’s definitely po…[Read more]

That’s so cool! I love the idea of using word boards to make a concept more concrete! What genre is it?

@rose-colored-fancy
Thanks! *smiles* I am not sure yet. I know it is for a middle grade audience and has some contemporary and fantasy elements. We will see as I go!

Hi Emily!
I’m in the middle of a trilogy, editing the first book and drafting the second. It’s about the princess of a nomadic tribe whose older brother, the king, is captured by an enemy tribe in an attack, and she has to rescue him before he’s killed or it turns into a war. I love writing my MC, Liorah, she’s…[Read more]

The Wordsnatcher was so clever! I also like the Triple Demons of Compromise.
Okay For Now is sadder than The Wednesday Wars, but is still hopeful. I highly recommend it.
I heard of The Twenty-One Balloons from my homeschool curriculum too! I think I ended up reading it before I had to do it for school because I…[Read more]

Phantom Tollbooth is another one of my favorites–can’t believe I didn’t mention it! I love the Humbug so much.
And if you like The Wednesday Wars, there’s a sequel called Okay For Now that follows Doug and a new book I haven’t read yet called Just Like That about Meryl Lee.
Glad to meet someone else who’s heard…[Read more]

Cool, our family does a lot of stuff outside as well. Like camping in tents in the bush, going on canoe trips, and blueberry picking.
Man, I have so many! For starters, I really like the Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart, Sunrise at Normandy by Sarah Sundin, Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine, Carry On…[Read more]

Hi Emily!I’m an INTP, 5w6, and I also like middle-grade, although I think most of writing is more YA. What are some of your favorite middle-grade books? I really like Gary D. Schmidt’s books, The Trumpet of the Swan, and The Twenty-One Balloons.
Hope to see you around!
