Yes!  Sad backstories seem to be a requirement.  In fact, one of my characters (at least one) who is happy now will have something tragic happen within the story.

Maybe it’s a good thing we’re not gods/goddesses creating actual people……… ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Aww, that’s so sad the sister of Jacoby/Joe is gone!  The chest Rainbow’s trying to get into was left behind by her now-dead parents.

It seems the majority of my characters have really sad lives.  There are only like 2 or 3 that actually have normal/happy lives. (and I have a lot of characters in my brain)

Maybe our characters have a little in common!  Jacoby Joe is trying to get into a locked room, and Rainbow Moon is trying to get into a locked chest.  XD

Don’t you just love it when that happens? XD I usually don’t write outlines, but I have experienced similar things!  With some stories I’m like, “I want it to go in this direction.”  But when I write it it goes somewhere else entirely!  And yes, sometimes new characters are very necessary! XD

@katthewriter I am also re-reading!  I don’t have a ton to re-read, though, so I should be writing very soon!  I just need to remember what Rainbow has been doing so I know what her next move will be.

Even if you don’t make 50K, doing the most you can is still fantastic.  You don’t need to hit the 50K mark to do a good job with NaNo.  Just write as much as possible and don’t stress about the 50K!  I know you’ll be fantastic!
