  • Marnin stood still, wrapping an arm around his daughter. He studied the people around them, their posture, expressions, and micro movements. Everything painting a picture for him of who these people were, what reactions they might have. If they were friendly or hostile.

    “Why does she have that cloth around her eyes?” Gwyn asked, pointing at the…[Read more]

  • “Maybe a little less loud,” Marnin smiled at his daughter, resting a hand lightly on her head.

    Gwyneth looked up at him, grinning brightly. As if anyone could say no to that face. Marnin leaned on his cane, limping forward to catch up with Finley.

    “Well I guess that’s one way, but I’ll say this and no more. This isn’t’ real,” Nemesis smiled…[Read more]

  • “Perhaps we should introduce ourselves,” Marnin glanced at Finley. “I think our best bet now is to diffuse the situation. A fight in this darkness could be disastrous.”

    “Then we could be friends!” Gwyneth looked up at both of them.

    The Sandman opened his eyes and glanced around. It seemed everyone was nearly in position. Sunrise would come soon.

  • “Their stance shifted slightly,” Marnin watched their body language. “I…can’t really fight when it comes down to it.” His gaze rested briefly on the cane in his hand.

    Gwyneth peeked out from behind her daddy’s legs. “Maybe they are nice people. They are just mean because they can’t see us.”

  • Night!

    “It depends on how long you are entertaining me, or if the mood to strike takes me,” Nemesis said, the shadows pulling apart like a twisted smile. “Or if, deep inside, David decides that you are a threat. There are multiple possibilities. I wonder which one will come true.”

  • Yep!

    “No, but it still is annoying,” Nemesis’ eyes flickered. “In my world. Powers have souls. We take from our host. So we want what they want, but we keep our own wishes.”

    “So, are you wanting to fight?” Nemesis asked. “That’s what humans want when they grip their weapons, right?”

  • “You are awesome!” Gwyneth declared.

    “I’m not sure we should go over there,” Marnin hesitated. “They posture suggests hostility. I don’t have a good feeling about this.”

    He walked over to Gwyneth, motioning for her to be quiet. “Here get behind me,” he said softly. “We should approach this situation with caution. They already know we are here,”…[Read more]

  • Nice. Where are the shadowstrikes Kari? Since we want to keep them away from Hildan.

  • Sorry elaine, but who are the people they are running into?

    ~~~
    ”What am I,” Nemesis tilted his head. “I am a Power. You could say I’m David’s fear incarnate, but that would be confusing for you humans. Let’s just say I’m an entity possessing him giving him what he desires. What do I want?” A low chuckle filtered through the shadows. “I wan…[Read more]
  • “A question with a question,” Nemesis spoke. “Well I suppose I’ll answer. Back there, the boy you saw, his name was David. He’s only my holder though, you would say. My name is Nemesis. Pleased to meet you, human.”
    The darkness twisted, like a warped bow. Eyes staring, unblinking, at the figures below him.
  • David muttered pleas, trying to keep hold of the remains of his sanity. There were others around him, but he couldn’t focus enough to see them. The shadows swallowed him. His eyes changed from black to a strange white that glowed in the darkness. The flashlight reflected across the shadowy form.
    Nemesis took over completely.
    He disappeared out o…[Read more]
    “It’s alright to have a bad day,” Marnin smiled. He shifted, using his cane to steady his bad leg.
  • “I’m sorry,” Marnin said softly. Keeping his hand on her shoulder to provide a sense of relief from the pain of being alone. “I know you feel terrible right now, but in the little time we have known each other I have figured out your world isn’t what it should be. Your friends and family willingly and knowingly did this for you. You have a lot of…[Read more]
    What about a series of short letters in narrative form? Does that follow the guidelines?
    A Christain soldier sacrifices himself for his comrades and one of his buddies is so confused about why he starts corresponding with the Christian’s wife asking about  Christianity.
  • “It is a problem since we don’t know where we are at,” Marnin looked thoughtful. “How did you escape?” He looked at Harley.
    “There was a doorway, in my cell all of a sudden,” the young man replied. “When I walked through, I was here, crawling out of a tree.”
    “A door between worlds,” Marnin said thoughtfully. “Intriguing. Miss Finley if you woul…[Read more]
  • “Let’s sit you up,” Marnin said softly. Pulling back her hair he used a spare hair tie of his daughter’s to keep it out of Finley’s face. “Here have a drink,” he offered her his waterbottle.
    Gwyneth rushed over leaving the villainous granola bar behind. “Poor Finley, are you sick?” She asked, her eyes wide.
    “She doesn’t feel sick,” Marnin pl…[Read more]
  • Gwyneth smiled, she liked this girl. She was very nice and had a very bright light to see with, which was very good because her daddy kept running into tree branches. At the admittance of not eating for several days, Gwyneth grabbed Finley’s hand.
    “That isn’t good,” she said earnestly. “You have to eat so you can grow big and strong. You can’t…[Read more]
