Like Kiark, I didn’t really know much about him. Then I started writing him and realized he’s a typical proud teenager trying to prove himself and not doing a very good job at it. Ta da. Aren’t I brilliant?
I really like how you’re writing Kiark! I can see how he’s trying and struggling. It’s really fun to read! I hope he gets better though…
Oh, but to help with worldview, if you go up into resources you can get a worldview worksheet — which I need to force myself to fill out — if that would help
Cool! I really have to fill that out…
But your villain totally makes sense in his motives if he’s doing it for world peace!
Thank you! It took a shockingly long time to come up with that. Its a lovely, complicated backstory of love, and revenge, and twisted motiviations. (Goodness, I love writing that!) Only problem, I have this intricate backstory, but how do I make it clear to the reader without a villainous monologue/infodump? I do have a character that knows about it, but he isn’t about to tell it to Liorah! I can hint at it, a little, but not enough to make it clear. Howwww?? Any tips are much appreciated!
I wanted to have a villain like yours, but I just didn’t want to try figuring out why he was destroying his entire country bc I’m lazy (that is the true reason), so I remorselessly dragged Wylo down into pits of darkness Gray characters are the best!!!!!! I love those characters bc they can get complicated and are often some of the most interesting.
Poor Wylo! (Kind of, I actually like doing that too XD) And I love gray characters too! Until either I or one of my beta readers gets attached to them and I can’t give them
an insanely dramatica satisfying downfall. Then I need to redeem them… *Siiiggh*And I’ve never heard of that book, is it good? I’m always looking for good books If the title is any hint, it should be good.
YESSS!! It’s the BEST! It’s a series by Jennifer Nielsen. It numbers 4 books so far, but the fifth is coming out next year. It’s thrilling, exciting, and plot-twisty, with amazing three-dimensional characters. The only thing better than the brilliantly evil gray villain is the snarky, quick-witted, and generally beautifully human main character, Sage. Sage is probably my favorite main character of all time. It has amazing foreshadowing and character voice too! Okay, I’ll stop now. It’s amazing!
And I love how you argue with Liorah! I’ve actually never had that in my head before, but I wish I did.
I cannot count amount of times that Liorah would start arguing with another character while I was just going about my business. Those are the moments that I doubt my sanity XD It’s awesome though, because I get some lovely, sassy responses.
I did, however, lie awake in bed last night coming up with a comic strip that I will probably never make of Wylo’s downfall. I also imagine portraits of them in my head, of which never turn out even half as good on paper if I actually try
Goodness, I do that too! I can’t really imagine portraits though, I just know what they look like vaguely. When I start drawing them, I do figure out what they DON’T look like. I’d draw a nose and then think: “That’s isn’t her nose! Hers is….. not like that.” XD
I love your quote BTW!
Ha! That’s hilarious!
Thank you! I guess that’s just her personality. *Sigghhh*
Oh, and sorry for injuring Rilyn. :/ I just really need to figure how she’ll react to injuries
That’s totally fine! I can’t wait to see how she reacts! I actually wound my characters a little too often XD I always have to be careful not to wound them so much that they can’t carry out plot related things. Oh, and thanks for rescuing Liorah!
