    @obrian-of-the-surface-world

    I am so glad Rose joined in here.  She has amazing worldbuilding skills with a cast of complex characters, and she also has a complex system of tribes and kingdoms.  She will be such a great resource to you so I highly recommend getting her input.  Rose is a great researcher as well, which builds confidence in her creative worlds and a rich layering of nuance.  I wish she would publish her trilogy. Perhaps we can join the “Convince her” team.

    Thanks! That means a lot! 😀  I do my best!

    Sorry, nope. This trilogy is strictly, selfishly for me to mess around in without worrying about publishing just yet 🙂

    This is so true, although some of our fellow writers would substitute “tea” for “coffee”

    Is this based on the fact that a certain writer launched a paragraph-long rant against coffee just yesterday where they might have said “Are you people bonkers?!? I can hardly choke down a sip, much less an entire. pot!

    (Sound familiar, Joelle? 😇)

    @joelle-stone

    I second what Mr. O’Brian over there said about Rose – she’s a very swaggy individual with highly entertaining characters (*cough cough* Liorah *cough cough*) and quite the complex world-building.

    Awww, thanks, Joelle! *Gives you a massive hug because you deserve it for being awesome* Oh, entertaining is the least I would call Liorah XD You know just how much of an awful little gremlin she is XD

    However, hot chocolate and whipped cream and fuzzy blankets present themselves…

    *Happy gasp* YES!! Absolutely! I’ll bring the ice cream and cats!

    @jared-williams

    Please do check out Joelle’s awesome blog! (It’s in her profile!) She’s very talented, quite shockingly consistent, and her content is both entertaining and enlightening 😀

    by the way, how do I change the @ signature?

    Sorry, there’s no changing it. You can change your name, but not the signature, that one’s permanent, as far as I know.

    I have a nickname my students used to call me that I’ve been debating back and forth as to whether have it as my writing alias… Mr. Trip… Ever since, I’ve always thought Trip Williams had a nice ring to it. lol.

    I like that name! It’s really fun, and having a pseudonym is nice, I think about 80% of us here on SE use one.

    Rose, your fantasy stories sound amazing! I am a big fan of the Ranger’s Apprentice, which didn’t have lots of magic. My magic system, called essence, is actually based off of Plato’s perfect forms. Then different races have differing abilities that allows them to manipulate those perfect forms, or essence. I love my races, and not sure but there may be more coming… but it’s been really fun, working the old imagination station.

    Oh, that’s a fascinating jumping off point for a magic system! I haven’t put much study into it, but that’s an awesome concept to use!

    Hey, RA! That series is what made me want to write fantasy in the first place, along with Letter for the King! Though, as I’ve gotten older and learned about writing, I must admit the quality of the writing took a dramatic nosedive after book 11, and Brotherband isn’t nearly as good, though it’s a fun read. Everything before that was great though!

    A few of my races/characters, I can’t effectively create due to the limits of their options, but they do have a lot of great options. That being said… That’s awesome that you do your own art! I wish I could.

    That sounds awesome! I’ve never heard about that program but it sounds like a great option!

    Actually, I hope to finish writing my WIP within the next week or so. Would any of you be interested in swapping beta reads? I was also kind of wondering if there was a section on this forum where you can post sections of your writing for critique?

    Sorry, I don’t really read in that genre so I don’t think I’d be the best fit 🙂

    As for critique, I’m not sure there’s a specific group for it, but you can absolutely post it! Especially sections of <1000 words will definitely get critique, there are always some folks around who are happy to do it!

    I love that you research for your fantasy! I try my best to do that too! While I do have some animals and plants that are native only to my fantasy world, I try to do a lot of research on real life abilities of animals and plants (eg. Aefflaed uses a lot of herbal remedies in her medicines in my WIP).

    Well, my research is usually a result of gaining a facination with something and disappearing into a rabbit-hole for a while and then finding some way to work it into a novel, or make a story around it. I currently have a plot in progress that’s based entirely off the knife-stopping capabilities of whale baleen. Yeah… I’m not even exaggerating XD

    Now, asking people for their favorite book is rather overdone. Instead, I’d like to ask the weirdest book you enjoyed (or read and didn’t enjoy, if that one is more amusing), the book with the prose you like the best, and the book you finished/reread even though you didn’t enjoy it because it was so much of a trainwreck it was almost fun in it’s terribleness.

    (That may be somewhat overspecific XD)

    • Yeah, you guessed it. I thought that was funny and almost sprayed my computer screen with the mouthful of java I was drinking when I read her blog post. Note to self: Joelle loathes coffee. 😂
