Premise of Current Novel

Superheroes typically possess some kind of power. Maybe the qualities are the ability to fly, to breathe underwater, or to jump over buildings with ease. Sometimes the qualities that make heroes are simpler. For the teenage girls from Sendai, Japan in this book, being heroes means using ninja-like skills, armed with a samurai sword and determined spirits, to ensure the safety of their families and their city. Kamera Oyama’s dad died when she was twelve. Since then she has helped her mom and older sister take care of the household along with completing her last few years in school at the top of her class. Her Papa had always taught her how to defend herself, and one of his final gifts to her was a Katana sword. To keep up his legacy, she continued to train in martial arts and with her sword. Kimi Higashi’s parents barely acknowledge her existence. If she’s not getting them attention, she’s not worth their time. The only thing they tell her is that they want her to be one of the popular kids at her school and to be friends with the other popular kids. Her way to rebel is by hanging out with less popular friends, like Kamera Oyama, and training in Japanese-Brazilian jiu-jitsu instead of the more popular sports. When rumors arise of a mysterious gang trying to steal the city’s wealth, these two girls feel obligated to do something to help. But what could they possibly do to protect the city and the people they love? Katana Khan is the first in the Katana Khan series that will lead the two friends to Townsend, Tennessee, a new world with new friends, new rivals, and new challenges.

This was the original premise of my book, but I am now changing it up a bit. Rather than taking place in the real world, I am crafting a new land for my characters to live in. I am choosing this path because it will benefit my story in the long-term.
