Kedori beckoned to Pasha and took off after the group, trying to catch of glimpse of the boy’s face. The woman hadn’t looked too pleased about the state of his wound.

It wasn’t supposed to turn out like this, Kedori thought, sweat beading on his forehead. We were just supposed to split the rebellion to keep the city safe. 

And then. . .

Kedori shook himself. I’m not leaving until I know he’s okay.

Kiet awakened to pain and cold. Pain from his still-throbbing leg; cold from the stone floor beneath him. Shifting and forcing a cry of pain back down his throat, he glanced around. There were the two agents, standing talking to a stranger, and there was a young woman with a backpack. She glanced at him, her eyebrows furrowed in concern before shooting up as she met his gaze.
