    @noahlitle That’s interesting, about villains and heroes wanting the same thing. I never really thought about it that way. Also, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with taking examples from animated movies. The fact that the stories that Disney and Pixar tell in their films are liked so much by adults and kids alike shows how good their storytelling is.

    One of the villains that has impressed me the most is the Commandment from Sabaa Tahir’s An Ember in the Ashes, because, kind of like what @kate said, she’s bent on pursuing her own goals. She’s competent, is consistently pursuing her own agenda, and doesn’t specifically focus on stopping the protagonist, just gets in her way by what she does. I think a lot of villains seem to almost cater to the protagonist and can be frustrated/afraid of them sometimes, but the Commandment is like an unmovable iron wall, and proves to be hard to beat.
