The first thing anyone needs to know about being a ghost is that it makes getting a job incredibly difficult.

Add to that the fact that the job I wanted was in Paris. You people have gotten so rushed and crowded over the ages. And rude. Gentlemen in my era always bowed, whatever they thought of my looks.

Apparently shrieking is etiquette now. In retrospect, perhaps I should have gotten rid of the grave-clothes before I went out in the street, but they were only a few centuries old.

Besides, I had more important things in mind.

A job. Just a job; nothing drastic.

Heavens, how you people jump to conclusions. Why would I do anything drastic? Several hundred years in a grave tends to give a lady patience. After the first century, I was a perfect lamb.

By the way— those of you who think ‘coffin’ is a synonym for ‘bed’, and ‘grave’ the same thing as ‘resting place’ have obviously never had their eyebrows… I mean, let’s just say I have some things hanging over me from my previous life that make rest… well… what is it you French say? Difficile.

In the extreme.

But that doesn’t matter. It’s all behind me now.
