Lytt followed Franz down into the gloom, barely getting her wings in before the dragon slammed down with the force of a crumbling mountain. Somehow the floor held. Perhaps the castle wasn’t completely against them after all.

Teagan lay on the ground, horribly maimed. Lytt fell to her knees next to him, ignoring Franz’s urges to hurry. She felt for a pulse, and when it didn’t appear, passed her hand over Teagan’s face, closing his eyes in death. She fought the impulse to grieve as she stood. It seemed wrong leaving Teagan just laying there, but she knew they didn’t have a choice.

“Come on,” Franz told her one last time, and turned to go.

Lytt almost followed. Almost. But then Teagan began to fade.

“Franz!” Lytt shouted, bringing him back. Not again!

A moment later, all that was left of Teagan was a few spots of blood on the floor.

Lytt slowly faced Franz. “What just happened?” she demanded.

Franz shrugged, then jerked her out of the way as the dragon forced its snout through the floor. A feather fluttered to the ground. “We’ve gotta get out of here,” Franz reminded her.

Doing her best to ignore her claustrophobia, Lytt followed him deeper into the tunnels. So death was possible, as was serious injury. The option that this was all a nightmare had faded with Teagan’s body. The danger was too real to be only a dream.

    Danger. Actual life-and-death danger.

    Dharin.

Yeah, that was kind of short. *shrugs* @rusted-knight or @anne_the_noob14
