@Cassidy, Josiah actually wrote a really great article about the importance of hiring an editor. Here’s a link.
I have also not hired one yet because money is a thing that is hard to acquire. But finding a good one is on my to-do for the Summer and I’m really excited about it.

Hey Everybody!
Time for our next discussion in the Writer’s Life series! This week: Being a (good) Beta Reader.
I don’t think I have any new announcements, so lets get right into it!
Beta reading is a great way to make friends, help others, and even polish your skills.
Today, I want to give you some tips so that, when you beta read, the friend…[Read more]

@pookiemonster, If you can’t imagine not needing an editor, I’d say you’re in a good place right about now. Keep up the good work. (Also, if you want some real feedback post something on here and tag a few of us. Maybe we can pull together something more helpful!)
@cassidy How does the old song go? “Hello rewrites my old friend, I’ve come to…[Read more]

HI. I’m sorry I disappeared over the weekend. We had guests and I had no internet. BUT, I read what you’d written and I really like both of them. (are they two separate things, or are you going to tie them together?) Either way, I think it could be cool. I’m headed to work, but I’ll swing in tonight to grab the scene if you’ve…[Read more]

Glad to see you both here!

Deep in the corner, a figure shuffles through the settled blackness. Dust kicks up under his feet and he starts *cough* to *hack* cough. Oh hey, said “dark figure” is me and said dark room is this little place where we come to learn.
I apologize.
BUT, I also have good news, the Guildmasters have been working together and have decided to share…[Read more]

No, we’re not going on a competitive evangelism spree.
What we are doing, is trying to write the most believable conversion scene. It’s due two weeks from today, March 25th. So let’s get right on it.
Here’s what we need to do:
– Everyone head over to this doc to brainstorm ideas. Answer these two questions: 1) what elements make up a good…[Read more] -

Oh… I like the feel of it!
Unfortunately, that’s kind of all I’ve got is a feel. This seems like mostly just a lot of name dropping and teenaged angst. What makes your storyworld unique? What powers does the God of Manna possess that make this conflict unique/interesting? Why should I spend my time reading about this romance when there are a…[Read more] -

Alright guys, results are IN! Rillumen came in 4th with 11,595. Not first, but not last. Nice work to everyone who participated, and we’ll get more people in on it next time around.
Have a great weekend!
