Hey guys! Sorry this is so last minute; I completely forgot about the guild war. 😧

I know you guys have already gotten started planning and that we have like… only 2 days left, but I just wanted to throw this story idea out there just in case it might work. Since @j-a-penrose said that Daeus is more partial to serious tones and themes, I was wondering whether we should write a story that had to do with a cultural clash on the sacredness/preciousness of life? The story idea I had in mind had to do with some articles a friend sent me a few months ago. It had to do with the science of brainstem cells and finding out that harvesting and re-injecting healthy stem cells into other parts of the body or another person’s body can heal damaged cells and even, to a certain extent, almost regenerate genetic decay/dead cells. Of course, with these discoveries, there are different concerns and moral views from different sides. There are those with more liberal thinking who believe it’s alright to take stem cells from aborted babies  and use them for therapy. Others have tried to find other ways instead of from babies to use stem cells, and one doctor has succeeded at this. Her name is Dr. Kristin Comella, and she’s found a safe and less expensive way to take stem cells from a patient’s own body and re-inject them back into the person. There’s also much competition involved with the two sides. My friend mentioned this about stem cell treatment and Dr. Comella and the resistance against her:

“There are two different kinds of stem cell treatment. One is part synthetic and involves fetus tissue. The other is where you only use your own stem cells, and it’s not synthetic or sourced anywhere other than youself.

“There’s a huge lawsuit going on between this lady and a huge company, who’s trying to shut her down because of what she’s found out. They’re trying to get the government to make restrictions for the use of your own cells. :/

“The company suing her has their own process for doing what she does, but they charge their patients $500,000 for it vs. Dr. Comella’s $5,000.

“And the company that’s suing her is the one who offers the synthetic treatments.

“The big company who does the synthetic bad stuff, is suing the lady who can do the actual ok morally stuff. So that’s frustrating.

“She only uses stem cells from the patient she’s treating. Basically taking cells from one area and moving them to another. No other cells or synthetic formulas are involved, and it’s much less expensive. The synthetics company charges $500,000, she charges around $5,000.”

Here are two of the articles my friend sent. We can use these for more reference if we need:

I see a lot of potential in this theme. Also, I don’t think we would have to worry as much about worldbuilding since it can be set in present-day, as it is already, or even somewhat futuristically if we’d like. I was thinking that at the current timeline of the story, maybe babies are scarce on the earth because of lab testings and ill-treatment toward them. Maybe the MC/protag could be a scientist running away with one of the last babies left and then get into a fight or argument with the antagonist(s), possibly fellow colleagues. Maybe the antagonist selfishly wants to use the baby on himself or maybe for a loved one the antagonist cares about. Then later, to give the story the positive ending that you guys were talking about, we could have a mediator step in and reveal that a new scientific breakthrough had just been discovered that didn’t risk babies’ lives, but maybe it hadn’t been tested much and could be risky. The antagonist would then have to make a decision on whether to take the morally wrong way and steal the baby or take the morally safe way, even though it may be risky. Then we end the story or leave it on a cliffhanger. Also, during the fight scene/argument, we could focus more on the moral aspect of the story instead of getting very into the technical/scientific aspect of how everything works. So more dialogue and cultural clash of moral issues, less focus on trying to explain worldbuilding or spending time trying to make up species/tribes/clans etc.

What do you guys think? Is anyone here comfortable with writing something like this? I think this story would be considered sci-fi? However, I don’t have a whole lot of experience in writing sci-fi. I used to watch it a lot though since my dad and I both love the genre. But if we do decide to go with this story idea, would anyone be able to help write this? I’ll try my best to help too if I can.
