Ahem.

I like Steward’s idea. Like A is protecting cows (or whatever) because they’re sacred to their god/idol/whatever, and B understands that, but also knows that both A and B are gonna die unless they eat the cows (or whatever) and maybe they actually start a war over it, but finally B asks if A is sure that their god/idol/whatever would want them to all die like this and then the prophets or whatever of Culture A go and do whatever it is that they do when talking to their god/idol/whatever and come back and are like “Nagini (or whatever name) has spoken! We are allowed to eat all but three heifers and three bulls to save ourselves, and we are to share with you all!” Or something.

Idk if we’d be comfortable writing it (because of Culture A worshiping idols), but it’s an idea! Or it could always be another reason they won’t eat the cows or whatever.
