“We don’t have a lot but we’ll try to share everything alike here.” The boy gave her what looked like a welcoming smile. A half-hearted one at that. She didn’t smile back, simply swallowing the rest of her bread and stared back at him stonily.

She wasn’t sure why he was so willing to just let her eat. Wasn’t survival their top priority? She knew that if she was in his place she would fight tooth and nail to keep strangers from marching over and grabbing her food. But judging by their dead expressions, they just didn’t care anymore.

She wondered what could have happened that made them like this.

She watched as the boy went over to his companion sitting near them and comfortingly put a hand on his arm.

No way was she going to sit there and let despair fill her. She was going to do something useful.

Pushing herself to her feet, she walked around the room, pacing back and forth. The door she had walked through had since disappeared. Because of course it had. This wasn’t a normal building.

She approached a wall, knocking on it lightly. Solid. She moved over again and knocked on the wall. Solid again.

If she really was trapped in here, then it was time fir desperate measures. Closing her eyes, she summoned the energy in the air around her, drawing it to her body. Her muscles trembled as reddish gold psionic energy manifested in her hands, flickering and flowing like flames.

Mayra could feel the eyes of everyone in the room turn on her, but she ignored them.

She hadn’t practiced that much. She had only been using this ability for the past year as part of her job as a spy. It was mostly for interrogations. But it could also come in handy in situations like this.

She wasn’t sure if this was a good idea at all. She didn’t even know these crestfallen people. And yet she was showing off her little secret to them. Well – technically it wasn’t a secret. People on the street didn’t call her the Bloody Mink because of her hair.

She didn’t look behind her to see the strangers’ reactions. She just walked along the walls, her hands raised as she used it to sense what was in the walls. The energy glowed against her skin and she took deep steady breaths as she walked, struggling to concentrate. Focusing on finding some sort of an entrance out of here.
