Malvat stared over the heads of the mankind into the circular room. Through one door four beds took up a wall, through another he could see a spacious library-type room, and through a third there was a comfortable rug in a large globe-shaped room. His nostrils flared as he picked up the scent of a crackling fire. Great. The Bearers had fuel.

“I take it this is our cue to rest,” he rumbled, glancing at Brendin and Alessio. “Although there is an uneasy presence here.” He inhaled deeply and narrowed his eyes at the one doorway covered with a dream-like white veil. His sharp ears picked up the sound of someone – or something – breathing softly.

“Perhaps,” he murmured to the man with the grey eyes. “Perhaps we should proceed with caution.”
