Doing her best to ignore her claustrophobia, Lytt followed him deeper into the tunnels. So death was possible, as was serious injury. The option that this was all a nightmare had faded with Teagan’s body. The danger was too real to be only a dream.

Danger. Actual life-and-death danger.

Dharin.

Her footsteps and Isaac’s thudded in her ears as they picked up speed, glancing nervously at the walls and ceilings as the metal dragon’s pounding became more and more powerful. Lytt kept an arrow on her string, unsure what use it would be against other metal creatures but not wanting to use her powers. It was too dangerous… Isaac didn’t know, and it’d be safer for both of them if he didn’t… it was draining… the reasons went on and on.

“Hold it,” Isaac whispered, halting suddenly and putting a hand in the air. “What’s this?”

Lytt managed to see past him into a wall of pale green fog, clogging the passageway. “It’s probably a trap. Toxic smoke, perhaps?”

Isaac didn’t reply, but experimentally stuck his hand into the smog.

Instantly they were enveloped in the green stuff, the ground fell out from beneath them, and Lytt shot her wings out, forgetting the one that had been twisted by the stalactite. With a cry of pain, she plummeted downward, landing directly on something soft. Something that let out a startled, “Oof!”
