    @kate The problem with both of these to me is that they might take too long to describe—they would be perfect as part of a longer story, but I’m not sure we can milk the emotional depth in a short piece. But maybe that’s just me. (Remember, I have literally no experience in character death!) 😝

    One thing that’s particularly heartbreaking to me is when a character saves the day but everyone thinks he was a traitor. Here’s an idea I had:  Everyone thinks they tried to betray the rebels’ cause when they went to the villain’s base, but in reality they planted something there which ensures the rebel victory. The villain thinks the person made a deal with them, and he has threatened to kill someone dear to them if they tell what happened. And then they were mortally injured, and maybe they are dying in the hospital, hearing the comments of doctors/nurses/people passing through who are condemning him, reporters on the TV talking about this latest “atrocious act of treason,” and all the while they know that they saved everyone.

    or…that might be too complicated. Idk.
