Here it is. @naiya-dyani @emberynus-the-dragonslayer @urwen-starial @esmeralda-gramilton @kari-karast
________
Fur. Pasha smelled fur. It was less oily than human hair, but thicker so it retained more scent. Pasha hadn’t smelled fur since, well, since his last master.
Pasha had been walking in front of the boy he now called master. He paused now and crouched, making himself smaller. Fur could mean one of two things, food or danger. Either way, he needed to be ready.
The boy stopped. Good, he wasn’t an idiot. When Pasha stopped he always had a good reason. His master didn’t make a noise, he just touched Pasha’s tail. Pasha turned his head, just enough to see what his master wanted.
What? Danger? His master’s hands moved smoothly, forming far more words than Pasha knew.
Pasha backed up closer to his master. He pressed against the boy’s legs and bared his teeth, careful not to growl. The boy payed attention and crouched down a bit.
Then Pasha could hear the fur coming closer. Then it bounded clear of the shadows. She was the most beautiful thing Pasha had ever seen in his life. She smelled as good as bacon still cooking in the pan.
Pasha kept his teeth bared. Who are you stranger?
She wriggled her entire body. It started with a bob of the head and ended with a swish of her tail. Who’s asking?
She was beautiful. I’m just a dog doing my job. Are you going to hurt my master?
No. She pranced up to him, and sniffed his jaw. Pasha relaxed and sniffed her ears. She was just barely his size, but her muscle was lean and slender where his was bulky and heavy.
Pasha turned to his master, who was already standing up.
“Era,” a voice called.
Pasha stiffened again. How could he have missed the smelly human coming?
The beautiful angel turned at the sound of her name. She trotted over to a boy with long black hair. Pasha stood protectively in front of his own boy.
Pasha felt a tremor go through his master. The dog dug deeper with his claws and even let a growl escape from his throat.
“Hello,” Era’s human said with a respectful nod.
Pasha looked up to see what his master would do. The boy raised his hand in greeting, and then started to run his fingers through Pasha’s fur. It felt good, but Pasha knew something was wrong.
“I’ll be going now,” Era’s owner explained as he tried to move past Pasha and his master. His boy didn’t look up, so Pasha shoved him out of the way. If his boy didn’t want to talk with the other members of his species, Pasha would keep them apart.
Unfortunately, this smelly human had an angel trotting after him. Pasha couldn’t help it, a whine escaped. He shook, doing something like that would have earned him a glare from any of his other masters, and maybe something more from his first. His boy didn’t seem to care.
She turned her manic blue eyes to him. He cocked his head. What now?
We could play. She danced around in a circle.
Pasha looked to Kedori. The boy didn’t seem to mind, so Pasha bounded over and cuffed her over the ear.
Or he would have if she’d still been there. Her gray fur shone in the light as she twisted and turned in complex patterns. Pasha tried to keep up lunging into the fray, but he’d never had a chance to play with another dog. His big body simply couldn’t keep up the dance.
She flipped her tail into his face. Wanna race?
He huffed, you’ll win.
The sparkling blue eyes were intense with pleasure. I know. She took off down the street and Pasha chased her, but she quickly outdistanced him and he turned back to the boy.
Pasha walked up to his master’s side, and was rewarded with a pet, despite the fact that his fur was slimy with the angel’s spit.
Pasha turned, hoping to see his angel one last time, but she didn’t come back. He heaved a sigh and continued down the street, following right behind his boy.
