Here’s the next part about Judah and Rhioe

*Sniff, sniff*

Judah bit his lip and Rhioe looked at him. For a moment he looked back into her eyes, then he let his call back down to Aura’s still face. He could no longer blink back the tears. They overflowed his eyes and began running quickly down his cheeks. Neither he nor Rhioe made a sound.

Judah wanted to speak. He wanted to say something comforting to Rhioe, he knew her heart hurt as much as his if not more. But somehow he could not think of anything to say to her. He glanced up, slipping his one hand from Aura’s shoulder, and squeezing Rhioe’s hand.

Both wished they could do something, but at the same time, they both knew there was nothing they could do.

A few more moments passed. Judah sat, feeling Aura’s hot breath on the side of his neck. He dreaded the coming moment. He never wanted it to come. But the waiting minutes that seemed like hours were almost as bad. His tears dropped down onto Aura’s face, making it look twice as pitiful.

At last Judah realized that he didn’t feel the warm breaths against his neck anymore. His heart stopped as he reached with a trembling hand and felt Aura’s little wrist. Biting his lip he waited, hoping against hope that she was not dead. But there was no pulse.

Taking a deep breath he raised his head. He knelt beside the cot and laid Aura down on it, then turned to look at Rhioe. Her tearfilled eyes were questioning, begging him to tell her that Aura was still alive. He shook his head. Swallowing the huge lump in his throat, he spoke in a barely audible whisper, “She-she’s dead Rhioe. . .”

*Bursts into tears*
