@calebonline Ooh, cool, I like the idea of having the mystery about what caused the dream! To clarify, when I said the dream should be realistic, I meant we should make the dream seem like a real dream, rather than like events in real life (which would not be a realistic dream). I think it’s important to make it feel like a real dream because, since the prompt is to write a dream sequence, entries that don’t seem dream-like enough would probably be ruled out. Is that what you were thinking? Just want to make sure I am interpreting your post correctly. I definitely agree that mood and emotion, which are usually intense, will help make it a believable dream.

@pursuewisdom Thanks! Yeah, I’m happy doing either comedy or a serious one. Comedy dreams are fun, but deep and meaningful is always good. Even though we only have 2500 words, previous entries that won or were in the top choices managed to have interesting plots, strong character voices, and in some cases character arcs. It’s definitely a challenge in so short a story, but it’s good practice in making our writing have meaning. Also, a comedy could still have symbolism in it (e.g., the common dream of going to school without your clothes on could represent feeling insecure in a new situation).

To answer your questions, when we brainstorm we just throw around any ideas or inspiration we have. Any suggestions are great! We all pitch in and decide what options are best as we go. We usually do that for several days, slowly narrowing down on the details until we have a good idea of which suggestions to go with. Then someone volunteers to write the first draft and puts it in the document. After that, we all edit like crazy and make suggestions until the time is up. Super fun! 😀

Yeah, we should definitely consider those things! Even if we don’t reveal any of them, they’re always good to keep in mind.

@ariella-newheart Oh, wow, those are weird! Generally I dream about books. One of my most frequent dreams is one where I get a book and wake up excited to read it, only to realize that I had only dreamed I had it. *shakes head* Writer dreams. xD I’ll have to send that one in for the newsletter. 😛 My weirdest dream lately was where I was surrounded by trolls, but they kept changing into different kinds of trolls. First it was Middle Earth trolls, then it was trolls from the movie Trolls (which I have never even seen), then it was trolls from Frozen (which I haven’t seen since I was seven), and then it was trolls from Aerwiar. Very weird.
