@writercatherine @steward-of-the-pen
In regards to the question about physics, science fiction and fantasy both work along similar lines; the audience agrees to go along with a narrative conceit that does not match up with reality, so long as internal consistency is maintained. Consider faster-than-light travel; we currently are nowhere near the…[Read more]

J.A.Penrose started the topic Lesson 17 : Plot Twist (A Continuation) in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 9 months ago
Today, we are looking at the info from last lesson, and turning it into something.
Two paragraphs to be precise.
In which you are going to foreshadow your plot twist.
This shouldn’t be too time consuming or anything like that. You can use your own WIP, or just make up something for the purpose. The aim is to make sure that the readers get a…[Read more]

@writercatherine Hmm, good questions…
- Since a dragon’s ability to fly in most stories is not explained, maybe it would be cool if we did come up with a way that physics are different. The dragons I made for my own world have very light scales and are hollow-boned like birds, so that’s why they can fly. Are there any science-brained people out…

Hey, Parimis! In my current WIP, there is a character who receives word that her best friend has been executed for treason. The way I’m writing the story, there is no reason for her to believe that he could have been saved. (But, spoiler, he is. Sort of. It’s rather complicated, but it has to do with his father’s sly plots and such.) I want the r…[Read more]

@coggleton
@steward-of-the-penHmmm, I’d have to check but I am preeetty sure that it wouldn’t be anonymous enough. Unless we have a judge who is totally separate from all of the Guildiness. (And I think I know who is judging the guild war anyway.)
Don’t worry. I do have plans for our world though. *mysterious nodding*

@writercatherine Worldbuilder here! What shall we work on next?
The only problem with doing our guild war entries in our world is, well *coughcough* it’s our world, and everyone would know it was us.
We should definitely do some other collective writing project set in Parimi though. There’s a lot of potential for a cool story in this world.

Can I just say guys, that that was brilliant. *flails* You all worked really hard, and ended up writing a really cool story. It was also a really hard sort of task because ‘prose’ is so broad. But whatever the result, you guys did a stellar job! *applause* I’ve turned it in now, so we just have to wait and…[Read more]

Often it is thought that there are two ways to approach writing: Character driven, or plot driven. However, with well written writing, this does not need to be the case. In fact, it shouldn’t be the case. The two aspects should be interwoven and inseparable.
This also ends up being vital in mastering your suspense. Because, particularly in our m…[Read more]

@writercatherine It’s the third formatting option on the text box that’s an open quote (“). It should say “blockquote” when you hover over it.

Hey guys!
I need some help. I think the paragraph where Bryka is deciding whether to go see Srepsev rise or keep running away needs to be expanded a bit. You can look at the doc to see what I mean. So, Parimis, it has come to my attention, that having a space to put up tricks that help people know when to use certain words, pieces of grammar, etc, could be helpful. That will save having to hunt through all of the critues and things to find that one gem that someone had.
So, if you have any helpful little tit-bits, feel free to share!
