Yes, there is still chivalry in this world. But as God’s words is ignored, so will the code of chivalry. And we see the USA is slipping (very far) away from the idea that God’s word is the universal health.

And I think part of being chivalrous is working through awkward situations, and working at making them not awkward. The more I practice, the less awkward situations are, that might have been awkward.

I guess one of the ways I parents have taught us these kinds of  things, is making us go to dances. Not that we don’t enjoy it, but I think for all of us it was awkward walking up to a girl that you may not know well (or at all) and asking her to dance. Our family has gone to countless dances (formal and informal) where we did ballroom and contra dancing. It’s a way of teaching men how to be gentlemen in a way that is not awkward.

Yes. Normally the only time a girl will offer her is upon first meeting, and even normally then. Sometimes.

But I will nod and smile, say hello. If I wore a had, I might tip it (because tipping the hat takes awkwardness out of it. It gives me something to do in greeting. And it’s something I wish was more a part of our culture).

Also, we go to a small church, so I’ve learned who enjoys what topics, and if I’m in a place of talking with a young lady I am able to bring up a topic that they enjoy. (For instance, if I know one of them just got their learners permit (for driving) I comment about it and ask if they enjoy driving. Several of the girls at our church do horses, and I know that topic is really fun for them)

But all in all, I think that the gentleman has more power than he realizes in making the conversation less awkward. I think the girl has power there too, but if the guy can be calm, and speak in a smooth (as in relaxed) manner, I think that will reduce the awkwardness exponentially. Now this is less work for the guy if the girl is also good at that kind of thing.

Now, this is just my observation… I’d like to hear what you think… All of you: @anne-of-lothlorien @skye  @ericawordsmith @evelyn
