The Vapid Serendibite is the sequel to The Sovereign Jeremejevite, a fantasy for young adults. Some spoilers for Jeremejevite follow:
Peter and Mabel, now married, are living in relative happiness, living the daily routine of a Park Ranger and Writer (respectively). But Mabel is worried for the routine. She hated routine before her first novel was published and wanted more than just a cycle of mundane. Will Peter start wanting more? Going from Knight of Melodric to Cat-Rescuing Park Ranger couldn’t be good on his self-esteem, no matter how much he said it was a nice change of pace.
On top of Mabel’s growing anxieties over their routine, Peter’s wishes to start a family, and an accidental puppy birth (apparently, even fixed dogs can sire one last pupper), the land of Melodric is in trouble, the new Grand Cross, M. is incompetent. The stars are lying.
Peter and Mabel find their way back to Melodric, in hopes of quelling the rising tensions
But more trouble sometimes happens when you try to fix trouble.
