@j-a-penrose Good grief. Pre-made plot twists? I had no idea such abominations existed. 😛 I mean…how do you have a plot twist that ties in to character arcs and theme when it’s a random one picked off the internet? Yikes.
On the topic of cliches, part of the premise of the story I’m working on right now is that the characters start to fail by relying on cliches. So, I’m wondering how far I should go with twisting them and what sorts of things I should leave so it still fits the fantasy/fairy tale genre?
Every choice: What are all of the options?
Actually, that might really help me. I know I can be quite creative when I start thinking about what everyone else would do and try to come up with something completely different. I think that when I’m not doing an assignment that ten other kids are doing, I lose the creative focus and am more likely to take the first idea I get. Looking back, I did best with that when I was pantsing. Everyone seems to advise against it, but it the past it seems to have worked well for me. It’s kinda weird, but even with some of my very first stories all I had was an idea of how the character was going to be different at the end, and somehow the character arcs kept accidentally lining up with the spontaneous plot. And I had no idea what I was doing. Maybe I should try going back to that? *shrugs*
(Look, I didn’t even bring up the Wingfeather Saga this time. Proud of me? :P)
Thanks Jess!
