BookDragon replied to the topic Struggling with worldbuilding for a strange universe in the forum Fantasy Writers 17 hours, 4 minutes ago
Update: I did some more worldbuilding that hadn’t occurred to me to do before. Some of the layout might be odd, but it’s the best I could do without typing it all out again. Here it is. Thoughts anyone?
The World’s Name: Deppord-Dnal
World Description by Perception:
· Beginning of the book: Deppord-Dnal is comprised of many region…[Read more]

Nithel sighed softly, and shut his eyes, thinking as Nathair walked off. He fingered the pendants on his necklace, feeling the flower he’d carved, for Leana… *memories/worries for the future/other thoughts…*
Leana smiled sadly at Alessio and squeezed his arm. *thoughts* “How do you know that?” She pushed to her feet, shutting her eyes in a…[Read more]

Alessio glanced up as Nathair wandered off. He’d noticed Leana seemed to sympathize with the man, and Nathair was so good with words, he’d use that to his advantage Alessio knew. But if he said anything, if he said too much he’d kill him.
Biting his lip, Alessio curled his knees into his chest. The pounding of his own heart thudded against him n…[Read more]

SEARCH
Ironically enough, Burn has never lead me wrong when it comes to his duties as a scout.
“As much as I hate to say it…” Words cannot even begin to express how much. “if Burn says we should go to the glowy pool of evil magic that absolutely will kill us, we should go…”
Burn nods vigorously out of the corner of my eye.
“Because there…[Read more]

“Ah yes the glowy evil water” Nathair said, “You know, maybe we should consult the grownups on this, mm?”

BURN
I point to the glowing pool that I can somehow see.
“I pick that direction!” I say triumphantly.

Nathair was getting bored (terrifying prospect, he knows). So he wandered off in search of Burn to annoy. He was talking to somebody new (that or Nathair just hadn’t bothered to remember the strange, masked person).
“Burn’s the only person I’ve known before…whatever this is.” Search was saying to the man.
“I’ve learned the names of the people I…[Read more]

“Well Hades. It would seem most of the people in our group are gone. Why don’t you introduce us to your group.” Search smiles. “Burn’s the only person I’ve known before … whatever this is.”
Very well. This was reasonable. “I’ve learned the names of the people I was with, but as I have said I do not know anyone here personally.”

BookDragon replied to the topic Ending Scene… Too sudden? Help appreciated and desired! 23K words in the forum Fantasy Writers 1 week ago
First, let me tell you what my goal is not right now: my goal is not to tear your work apart. There are parts that choked me up a bit, and I don’t think the ending is too sudden at all! Here is my goal: I want to explain how I feel as a reader. Please don’t be offended.
I think the thing that’s throwing me off a little is that I feel like…[Read more]

I love what-if stories about Scripture. In fact, I’m planning a series that plays with the apocalypse. Where I question this concept is where it concerns God’s character. Would God respond to Satan’s challenge like this? Would He even acknowledge it? Why would He?
I don’t see anything wrong with exploring life post-apocalypse, but…[Read more]

BookDragon replied to the topic Word Count Question in the forum Fantasy Writers 1 week ago
According to MasterClass, the average YA fantasy novel is about 40,000 to 80,000 words. If you plan to take this to a publisher, that would probably be a good number to shoot for. That being said, I like the other answers on here better.

BookDragon replied to the topic Morally Ambiguous Characters in the forum Fantasy Writers 1 week ago
I differ with a lot of people on this topic. The main reason for this is that it seems like media is saturated with horrible people that we’re told to like because their hearts are in the right place. I hate that. When I read about horrible people, I want them to get what they deserve, or to see them redeemed. When I write, I want to give my…[Read more]
