To be honest, I actually liked the first story better…as an actual story, heh, at least with the plot and characters. The second story does fit the prompt better, but life is not about writing prompts. (You all can find the original under version history.) I liked the first version better because it was more intense in describing the the prison and the ending was better…more contrast with the dark prison.

However, it’s not my story, so…*shrugs*.  I just dislike the hair-trigger “delete the whole thing!” stuffigans going on. I feel that the second is over-revised to include more sun and cut a lot of what made the original so powerful.
