Blood oozing from several shallow wounds, Rilyn paused her ferocious fighting long enough to pant. Why were there so many monsters?
At that moment, tiny feet alighted on her shoulder. “Sorry. I can’t fight anymore.”
Rilyn turned her head and saw the fey person. “Hey. ‘Bout what I said earlier, Rilyn,” he began.
Guilt tickled Rilyn’s consciousness. He remembered her name, and she couldn’t recall his for her life.
“I regret saying it,” the fey continued. “Dragons like you haven’t been heard from where I come from for a very long time. I guess all the stories I heard were of the villains of your race.” He paused. “Hey. If we make it through this, tell me some stories of your great heroes. I’m sure you’ve got some grand ones.”
Rilyn couldn’t resist a smile. Her temper was like a tempest. It flared violently for a bit, but then it stopped, and all was calm–except for the part where you had to clean up the damage. But, the point was, she didn’t hold grudges, and she readily accepted the fey’s apology.
“Thanks. But I’m sorry, too. I shouldn’t have gotten so mad. Your suspicions were well founded. You see, rogues–greedy dragons who don’t live in any tribe and only care for themselves–do terrorize other races.” Rilyn stopped for a moment. “What I mean is, you had reason to be leery of us, and I should’ve taken that into account. I–I was wrong.” Rilyn forced the words out of her mouth, feeling as if there was a lump sticking in her throat. “And I will make sure we get through this–both of us and all the rest of these people. And I promise to tell you some stories if you tell me of your kinds’ tales,” she added with a grin.
A jaguar-like creature leapt at Rilyn’s throat from behind, a shriek-like cry pouring forth from its mouth.
Whipping around, Rilyn’s talons slashed at the beast’s side as its own claws buried themselves in her chest and neck. Anger flared through Rilyn, and she smacked it with her tail, cringing at the sickening crack as it slammed into the wall. With the fey clinging to her scales, Rilyn charged toward the tunnel, where three people stood by a lever, ready to yank it down as soon as everyone made it through. The she-dragon saw a red-headed girl jerking the others inside. And there was another red-haired man staring at Rilyn with what looked like either horror or anxiety.
Why? Oh yeah. She wouldn’t fit unless she transformed. Adrenaline pumping through her veins, she squeezed her eyes shut and envisioned her human form.
Time seemed as if it slowed down around her. The monsters’ screeches sounded if they were filtering to her hears from a long way off under water. The blood gushing from her neck slopped down gloppily instead.
She felt her limbs growing shorter as the ground rushed up at her. She’d transformed just in time. Skidding to a stop next to other people, she gasped to the fey, “Meet you inside. I’ll help these guys.”
Then Rilyn noticed the princess-y girl. Pausing, she had a mental argument.
Just get inside and survive. The girl’s kind of annoying, anyways.
How would I feel if that were me, though? I bet most people here think I’m unbearable. I wonder if they’d want to help me.
With an audible sigh, Rilyn bounded towards the injured girl. She wondered if the princes would skewer her with her sword as she approached, but hurried towards her anyway. “Sorry,” Rilyn said. “This’ll probably hurt.” As carefully as possible, Rilyn slid her arms underneath the injured girl, hoisted her up, and carried her like a child to the tunnel.
“Pull the lever! Pull the lever!” she shouted to the others as she ran inside. Laying down her burden with the others, Rilyn paused, hands on her knees, surveying the situation.
Thank you!!
Fourth-wall breaking sounds so fun; if only one of mine would do it, *sigh*Lol XD I know, characters can be so stubborn some times! *rolls eyes*
Thank you!! But I’m afraid I’ve been sworn to secrecy on the source of my quote 🙁 😉 Sorry!!
