So I went through and read both version a couple of times. The second version definitely depicts Phillepe as a snobby prince well, but there are a couple of details in the first version I liked. (I commented about them in the docs). If I were too choose a version to stick with, I’d probably lean more towards the second version.  The second version seems to add a bit more complexity and mystery to the story as a whole, especially with the dynamic of the king and Oswin being friends. There were a few things that liked in the the first version of the king’s tale, so it would be cool if you could somehow incorporate them into the second version. It sounds like it has potential for an interesting story!
