Elina’s swirling vison slowly began to still, but the dull ache remained. She put a hand to her neck, massaging the sore spot between her thumb and fingers. It helped a little. Satisfied, Elina looked up and was immediately struck with the full implications of her surroundings. This wasn’t right. The high stone arches and colorful glass panes were nothing like she had ever seen in her little village of Solns. Even the designs on tapestries hanging from the walls were foreign to her.

Was she dreaming? Was Lenso right, and the stress had finally gotten the better of her mind?

Elina stepped over to one of the windows, and the pang of cold stone on her feet at least told her she wasn’t dreaming.  Through a yellow glass that made up a marigold, she looked out into a wide courtyard. Her eyes followed a stone walkway that wound around the courtyard, encircling pools and flower boxes, until it finally disappeared under a far gate.

Trying her best to keep her growing panic in check, she drew away from the window. Whatever this was, she would find out.  Somehow, having a mission seemed to steady her. And with a look full of more confidence than she actually felt,  she set off in search of something or someone who could help her.
