Here’s a poem I’ve written in the last few days.

Dead Poems

A poem died the other day –

they seem to die a lot –

it started in my heart but sank.

I sat and watched it rot.

 

Some poems die before they start

and never meet a page.

I wish I knew why poems die

but I am not a sage.

 

Perhaps God lets the bad ones die

and leaves the very best.

Or are the dead ones diamonds He

refines, then writes the rest?

 

I still don’t know why some poems

Are not worth being read.

It doesn’t matter; rot is rot.

Only God can save the dead.
