Korzen’s eyes narrowed and he drew his sword, still running at the crazy lady. Then, he slid to a stop about a foot away from her. “Listen. Let Jake go. Then we don’t have to fight. Jut let him go.” He stood poised to spring if the crazy lady didn’t listen.

Eiri growled and ran over to Avery, checking to make sure he was okay. He was still alive, but dazed. Then she turned and advanced on the crazy lady. Although she didn’t particularly want to fight her again, she would if she had to. If the crazy lady wouldn’t let Jake go, well, she didn’t see any other options.

(Is it a bad thing that I like it when there’s a fight best? And is it also a bad thing that I now think of Karra as the crazy lady in my mind before I think of her as Karra?)
