I’m reckoning that, as the theme is hope, we should be looking at how one can fully grasp hope in every circumstance. Maybe her first EiL is that she just didn’t want to bother with hope…that that’s just what you do when you’re too lazy to fix your problems yourself. And then have her morph slowly as she realises how much more alive the people around her were.

FOIL? Hmmm, maybe the first person she runs into is a super optimistic person, and they end up acting as foils of each other–By the MC helping them to toughen up a bit, and the other person teaching MC to embrace hope? Or, w could have another person in the crash refuse to change, and then making it all the more obvious as the MC is changing and becoming who she needs to be. This also would create some nice conflict…
